DR. RAINIER VILLANUEVA

Founder, President/CEO

DR. RAINIER VILLANUEVA was born in 1956 in the idyllic island of Masbate, in the Visayas region of the Philippines. Growing up in this rural countryside has led to his exposure, and later, deep fascination of various traditional remedies used to treat common ailments as practiced in his home town. Now as a doctor, pharmacist, medical technologist and practicing neurosurgeon, his background has made him appreciate the practical synergy of western medicine and traditional herbal remedies. Eventually, this has led him to concoct formulations using different local herbs under clinical parameters. Through the years, he has formulated over 70 product lines extensively using medicinal plants and minerals found in the Philippines such as Lawat (Litsea glutinosa), Gugo (Entada phaseoloides), Akapulco (Cassia alata L.), Virgin Coconut Oil (Cocus nucifera), Carrot (Daucus carota sativa), Calamansi (Citrofortunella microcarpa), Tawas (Potash alum), and other herbal plants and minerals.

In 1989, he established what is now known as the Rainiers Research & Development Institute or RRDI, one of the pioneers and recognized leaders in the field of herbal cosmetics in the Philippines. His pioneering work using Lawat leaves as main component in RRDI’s flagship product, the Lauat Herbal Shampoo, was recognized and awarded in the 27th Salon International Des Inventions in Geneva, Switzerland in 1999.

A member of the International Federation of Inventors Association based in Geneva, and former National Vice-President of the Filipino Inventors Society, Dr. Villanueva has been actively involved in various organizations, as well. He holds the following positions in the Industry: Founding President of the Chamber of the Herbal Industries of the Philippines, former Executive Vice President of the Chamber of Cosmetic Industries of the Philippines, current President and Founding Member of the Board of Trustees of the Phil. Cosmetic Technical Assistance Center Foundation, Founding Vice Chairman of the ASEAN Alliance of Traditional Medicine Industries, and member of the Board of Technical Advisors, PCAARD-DOST (Philippine Council on Agriculture, Forestry and Natural Resources Research & Development - Dept. of Science & Technology).
